Error Lines

In this tutorial I will walk give you step-by-step directions on how to create lines like these through your graphics:

First, open a new file in Photoshop and set your width to 7 pixels, and your height to 7 pixels like so:

Now zoom in as far as you can go, up to 1600 %. Next, click on your pencil tool and set it to 1.

This next part depends on which direction you want the lines to go. Either vertical, horizontal, left diagonal, or right diagonal works. I will be making my error lines from the right diagonal. Using the pencil tool, make a diagonal line across the square.

Now, go up to edit and then down and click on "Define Pattern" and save it as whatever you want to name it.

Okay, so now we have the lines prepared to be use. Next, copy the image you what to put lines through onto a new canvas. For me, I will be using this image:

Now go to layer, new, and create a new layer. Then go to edit and then fill. Set the "use" to Pattern and in the "custom pattern" box select your pattern, it should appear at the bottom.

Then go to the layer tab and select your layer with the error lines in it. For me, it's layer 2. Click on the box that, for now, says "Normal"; if you hover over it it says "Set the blending mode". Select "overlay" and your lines should now be blended into your image. If you want your lines to be darker, or lighter, you can set the opacity to your preference. The box to the right of where you set your layer to "overlay" is a box that give you an opacity option. Just slide the little arrow up and down the line until you're satisfied with the shade of your error lines.

So now you have learned how to create an image with error lines! You can either leave your image like this, or you can add some textures, stroke the image, just add some cool effects if you want to take it a little further. My finished image:
